Welcome to the web site of Edith Parzefall. This is me visiting Favela Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro.

Edith

I was born on December 10, 1967, in Regensburg and grew up in a suburban village of the medieval city. I've always been a bookworm, but at the age of nineteen I started to write stories. None of those I would want anyone to read. Except maybe very close friends for a good laugh. Basically, just because I had put it in my head that I would become a novelist, I studied German Literature, Linguistics, and American Studies. After that, I hardly dared to write anymore, but eventually recovered.

I was smart enough to learn something more useful as well, so I took computer science as a minor. I struggled for three semesters until I finally gave up, mainly on the maths. But it was worth a try. Shows you how stubborn you are and it helped me getting a job with SUSE Linux after my phD.

My true passion still is literature. In August 2005 I published my novel Jatrick through Books on Demand, as it did not fit into the programs of the big publishing companies. Which clearly indicates how amazing and unusual my first novel is. :-)

Close to three years I worked on a thriller set in Brazil, featuring street kids, drug gangs, a militant bookworm and a gringo. I am declaring this work as finished until a publisher forces me to go back and revise, waving with a nice cheque. I've written two screenplays, a series of children's stories, a third novel is still work in progress. I've put it away for a couple of months to revise it with fresh eyes later. Right now I'm toying with a stage play.
